Commemorative banknotes of Costa Rica

Commemorative banknotes in Costa Rica have been issued by the Central Bank of Costa Rica since its creation on 1950. The following is a list of the different issues along with a description.

150 Years of Independence

In 1971, to commemorate the 150 years of the independence of Costa Rica, the Central Bank issued a limited number of all the currently circulating banknotes, which had a seal that read “ 150 años de independencia 1821–1971 ”.

a) 5 colones series D

b) 10 colones series C

c) 50 colones series B

d) 100 colones series D

e) 500 colones series A

XXV Anniversary of the Central Bank

In 1975, to commemorate its 25th anniversary, the Central Bank issued a 5 colones series D note with a seal which read “XXV ANIVERSARIO BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA 1950–1975”.

L Anniversary of the Central Bank

In 2000 , to commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Central Bank issued a limited number of all the currently circulating banknotes, which had a seal that read “ 50 BCCR ANIVERSARIO ”.

  • Every Banknote of this issue kept the agreement number and the signatures of the original issues. The only change was the commemorative seal.
