Seven of Nine andTuvok 's shuttle is attacked, and an explosive device is transported on board. Tuvok sets it off when he attempts to defuse it, and the resulting explosion causes them to lose consciousness. When Seven later regains consciousness, she finds that they are held in captivity on an alien vessel. Tuvok has sustained heavy injuries resulting from the explosion on the shuttle, and Seven is forced to compete in an alienkickboxing sport called "Tsunkatse" to earn the right for medical treatment in order to save Tuvok's life.Seven is scheduled to compete in a "red" match (a match to the death) and a fellow Hirogen prisoner offers to train her. Seven is forced to make a choice to succumb to her own reservations and fears about killing her opponent, or giving in to her survival instinct and eliminate her opponent (the Hirogen who trained her) in order to survive.
Seven and Tuvok are eventually rescued by the combined effort of the "Voyager" crew and Captain Janeway in the Delta Flyer before the Tsunkatse match can be concluded, resulting in the unexpected rescue of the Hirogen prisoner with whom Seven had been fighting.
Casting
This episode featured former WWE wrestler turned actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as one of the fighters, a Bendary, in full make-up, but still retaining mobility enough in his face to identify himself with his trademark raised eyebrow. During his match against Seven of Nine, he performs one of his signature moves from his WWE career, the 'Rock Bottom'.
