- Pawlu Gatt
Pawlu Gatt was a famed Maltese revolutionary in the Middle Ages. Allegedly a notorious male prostitute, he was a member of the rebel group known as the
Brotherhood of 36 . Some like to refer to Pawlu as the brains behind the brotherhood, and was one of the founding members, alongside life-long friend and Scottish patriotWillis McGee . Pawlu admired McGee greatly for his sense of patriotism to both Malta and Scotland. He was greatly shocked when McGee took his own life during imprisonment. Gatt was also destined to meet a tragic end at the gallows, but legend has it that he paid his cell guard a special favour,Fact|date=October 2007 and was allowed out of his cell temporarily, when he turned on the guard suddenly and knocked him out and proceeded to escape and rescue his fellow member of the brotherhood,Joe Cardona . Unfortunately, these were the only two to make it out, and the survivors were released due to amnesty granted through confession.
