A.D.A.M. is a fictional artificial intelligence and antagonist in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic series, created by Dr. Eggman by accident. A.D.A.M. stands for either "Autonomous Digital Assault Microbe" or "A.D.A.M. determines Anonymous' Movements".

A.D.A.M. is initially depicted as a simple green computer screen with an EKG line that spikes in time with his voice. later on, when he gains a body composed of nanites, he appears as an amorphous green blob vaguely shaped like Eggman's icon with red eyes, a black mouth, and the word "EGG?" written across his forehead. Finally, after taking Tommy Turtle's body as a host, he assumes the form of a silvery metallic turtle with white eyes. A green orb rests on his chest, surrounded by a star-like frame with several cords of metal attached. Armor in the form of a helmet also appears around his head, matching four blade-like appendages reaching from his back.

Character history

A.D.A.M. is created three months into Sonic's journey in outer space in response to the battle between the Mobians and the alien Xorda. He learns of Sonic's return though a SWATbot legion under his control, which is destroyed by Sonic shortly after he lands on Mobius. A.D.A.M. also challenges Miles "Tails" Prower in a battle of wits, but is defeated when Tails tells jokes to confuse him. He also tries to take apart Bunnie Rabbot and integrate her into a small city composed entirely of nanites, but is convinced by Sonic that her organic components would corrupt his software if he did so.

A.D.A.M. is later assigned to track the mysterious being known as Anonymous, who had been manipulating events to ultimately destroy both Sonic and Eggman. It is later revealed that A.D.A.M. and Anonymous are one and the same, and Eggman has A.D.A.M.'s program destroyed. A.D.A.M. survives by possessing Tommy Turtle's body.

A.D.A.M.'s master plan is revealed to be the collection of every Chaos Emerald in the universe, which he had planned to store in his nanite city. He is destroyed along with Tommy Turtle by the combined efforts of Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Eggman. Following the battle, Tommy's remains — and by association A.D.A.M.'s — are placed in the Knothole graveyard alongside those of Sir Connery.

A.D.A.M.'s failed scheme provided Feist, the new ruler of the Zone, with near absolute power, as he fused all the gems into seven differently colored Emeralds. The only Chaos Emerald-like gem known to have escaped this was the Master Emerald, which was held back from A.D.A.M.'s summons by the combined efforts of Locke and Dr. Finitevus. Unwittingly, A.D.A.M. also left behind a gift for his enemies, as NICOLE later transformed his nanite city into New Mobotropolis.

Personality

As befitting an artificial intelligence, A.D.A.M.'s plans and thoughts are rooted in logic, though he does have a sense of humor. in a contest of wits, the only questions he can fall prey to are those with no logical answer. Unlike his creator Eggman, A.D.A.M. uses a mixture of subtlety and brute force, using nanites to infect enemy technology while at the same time directing his weaponry against the likes of King Acorn's Secret Service and the Wolf Pack. A.D.A.M.'s actions are all done to please his father, despite the fact that he rebelled against him on multiple occasions.

Abilities

A.D.A.M. has the ability to control Eggman's computer, thereby granting him control of every robot Eggman owns. He can also spread to other computer systems that connect to Eggman's databases and control them as well, though this control can be compromised if A.D.A.M. is distracted. A.D.A.M. is composed of countless nanites which can infect and control virtually any mechanical device. In addition to his own abilities, A.D.A.M. gains access to the abilities of Tommy Turtle after taking control of his body. Using the Chaos Emeralds, A.D.A.M. is also able to take on an unnamed Super form (presumably "Super A.D.A.M.").
