Sir William Bowyer-Smijth, 11th Baronet DL, JP (
22 April 1814 –20 November 1883 ) was a British politician.The son of
Sir Edward Bowyer-Smijth, 10th Baronet and Laetitia Cecily Weyland, he was born as William Smijth but changed his name to Bowyer-Smitjth on10 June 1839 . Educated atEton College ,Berkshire andTrinity College, Cambridge , he succeeded to his father'sbaronetcy on15 August 1850 . From 1852 to 1857, Bowyer-Smijth wasMember of Parliament (MP) for South Essex. He served then in the19th Essex Volunteers , reaching the rank ofLieutenant in 1860 and was also aDeputy Lieutenant and aJustice of Peace . He died, aged 69 inTwineham Court inSussex .Bowyer-Smijth married twice, on
2 April 1839 firstly Marianne Frances Meux, daughter ofSir Henry Meux, 1st Baronet inCheshunt ,Hertfordshire and on19 March 1875 secondly Eliza Fechnie Malcolm, daughter of David Baird Malcolm inCheltenham ,London . He had two sons, including his heir William Bowyer-Smijth and one daughter by his first wife, and six sons and nine daughters by his second wife. The baronetcy passed onto his nephew.References
