Formerly, much of American Public Media's programming content was distributed by
Public Radio International , which itself was named "American Public Radio", or APR, until1 July 1994 . APR was formed by four stations:Minnesota Public Radio , WGBH Boston,WNYC New York, andKUSC Los Angeles to distribute "A Prairie Home Companion ". PRI owns/produces numerous programs today, but still also distributes diverse programming from many sources. PRI is now third in audience size after NPR, and American Public Media (APM)Fact|date=March 2008. In contrast, APM predominantly distributes content that it owns; the current exceptions are "The Story with Dick Gordon ", "As It Happens " from the CBC, "Sound Opinions ", and theBBC Proms broadcasts from Royal Albert Hall in London.Programs distributed by American Public Media
Several specials are also distributed by APM on a less frequent basis, including a number of
Christmas programs and the "BBC Proms ".References
