March 18 ,1914 ,Chicago -April 28 ,1978 ,Los Angeles ) was a radio singer and announcer, occasional off-screen film singer dubbing the voice of non-singing actors, and American television actor active from 1959 to 1975.Gage resembled
James Arness and could imitate his voice perfectly, and played "Gunsmoke " spoofs in four episodes of "Maverick", which is the work for which he is best remembered, especially a famous 1959 "Maverick" episode withJames Garner called "Gun-Shy" (with Gage as "Sheriff Mort Dooley" instead of "Marshal Matt Dillon ") as well as "A Tale of Three Cities", "The Misfortune Teller", and "A Technical Error".He also appeared on "Batman", "
Bonanza ", "F Troop ", "The Donna Reed Show ", "The Lucy Show ", and "". Gage was married to swimmer/actressEsther Williams from 1945 to 1959, and they had three children. In Williams' autobiography "The Million Dollar Mermaid" (1999), she portrays Gage as a parasitic drunk who squandered her fortune.ee also
