- Knut Ekwall
Knut Ekwall was a Swedish painter, born
3 April 1843 in Säby (provinceSmåland ),Sweden , died4 April 1912 in Säby. Ekwall studied from 1860-1866 at the Academy of Arts inStockholm , with emphasis on xylography (designing woodcut printing blocks) and drawing. He became a pupil in Berlin of the painterLudwig Knaus . In 1870, Ekwall established himself as an artist inMunich in Germany and later worked inLeipzig . His works during this period were primarily for magazine illustrations, and were reproduced asengraving s. He returned to Sweden and died there at the age of 69.Known and/or accepted works
