Hamengkubuwana IV

Hamengkubuwana IV

Hamengkubuwana IV (also spelled Hamengkubuwono IV, April 3 1804 - December 6 1822) is the fourth sultan of Yogyakarta, reigning from 1814 to 1822.

His reign was a period of political deterioration that ultimately led up to the Java War. Upon his premature death, rumors circulated that he had been poisoned. His three-year-old son, Hamengkubuwana V, ascended the throne amid controversy over who would act as regent. [M.C.
