Guy Grundy

Guy Anthony Grundy (born July 9 1970) is an Australian bodybuilder.

Born at Penrith, NSW, Australia, near Sydney, Grundy has placed first in the Mr. Australia championships twice and placed 2nd in the Mr. World competition twice: in 1999 and 2001. ["Hardcore Muscle Magazine", Summer 2003 issue]

Grundy is currently the spokesman for Kaizen Nutrition company and offers his own line of bodybuilding DVDs. He has been photographed for numerous muscle and fitness magazines and has appeared in television shows and commercials, as well as in films, and writes articles and columns for several fitness magazines, including "Iron Man" magazine and "Muscle Flashes" for "MuscleMag". He has also written a weight training book.

Life and career

When Grundy was only two years old, his parents separated, and he was raised by various family members. Grundy was forced to switch schools so often that he was still unable to read or write at age thirteen, when he finally received remedial education. [Guy Grundy's autobiography] Estranged from his family at 16, and suffering from severe acne and other health problems, Grundy nevertheless stayed in school, competed in athletics (such as rugby and wrestling), and eventually entered his first bodybuilding competition in 1987 at the age of 16, finishing in third-to-last place. Bitten by the contest bug, however, Grundy continued to train, with the ultimate goal of getting a green card as an exceptional athlete and emigrating to the United States.

Following his first major competition in 1991, Grundy competed virtually every year for the rest of the 1990s. He became the first and only person (to date) who has won both the titles of "Mr Australia" and "Mr Australasia" (IFBB and NABBA)this has been done now a few times . Grundy came to the United States in 1998 and began to study acting and the martial arts. He has appeared on television on the BBC, NBC, and the "Oprah" show, among others, and in national commercials for Pepsi and in other advertising. In 2002, Grundy's training in martial arts and preparation for the world bodybuilding championship title caused him to overtrain and badly damage his rotator cuff. He lost the championship title by a single point and still believes that his required surgeries cost him the title. He retired from competition in the sport shortly afterwards.

In addition to his DVD and other business ventures, Grundy is currently a personal trainer in Venice, California. He has worked as a trainer with bodybuilders Melissa Coates, Dave Nelson (Mr. Los Angeles), Flip du Toit (Mr. South Africa), and Kal Savi (Mr. Ironman Amateur).

Grundy is married and has a daughter.
