Samuel Malthouse

Samuel Malthouse

Samuel Malthouse (October 13 1857 — February 7, 1931) was an English cricketer. He was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace and occasional off-spin bowler. He was born and died in Whitwell.

Malthouse debuted for Derbyshire during the 1894 season in several friendly matches, immediately prior to the club's first excursion into the County Championship the following year. His first appearance came in a match against Lancashire, helping secure the third-lowest scoring aggregate match total in the history of the Peakites' first-class lifespan.

Malthouse continued to represent Derbyshire throughout 1894, and made his first and only County Championship appearance in 1895 in a draw against Warwickshire. Malthouse was a lower-order batsman and a consistent and economical bowler. His son, William, played for Derbyshire between 1919 and 1920.
