Liu Qi (Chinese: 刘淇; Pinyin: Liú Qí; b. November 1942) is the CPC Beijing Committee Secretary, first-in-charge of Beijing, and also a member of the CPC Politburo. He is the current President of the BOCOG. [http://en.beijing2008.cn/bocog/bocognews/headlines/n214469580.shtml]
Biography and Career
* Graduated from the Metallurgical Department of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering, and majored in iron smelting. With a postgraduate education, Liu holds the professional title of "Senior Engineer".
* Mayor of Beijing, 1999-2003. He was succeeded by Meng Xuenong, who was replaced by Wang Qishan after the SARS outbreak.
