You're the Only You

"You're the Only You'" is a song from the "Welcome to Pooh Corner" Cable TV series which premiered in 1983 on the Disney Channel (which was also that channel's inaugural season). The song was written by the Academy Award winning songwriting duo of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The Sherman Brothers also wrote the majority of famous Winnie the Pooh songs including songs like, "The Wonderful Thing about Tiggers" and "Heffalumps and Woozles" from the 1960s. In 2000, the Sherman Brothers also famously wrote the score to "The Tigger Movie".

New episodes played five times a week from 1983-1987. Reruns continued to air until 1995. The Sherman Brothers wrote five songs, one for each of the major characters to sing, repeatedly each week. A storyline would "belong" to one character and at the end of an episode, the appropriate character would sing his "lesson song".

About the song

*"You're the Only You'" is sung by Tigger as his personal "theme song" specifically for this TV series. This is opposed to his widely accepted theme song in reference to the Winnie the Pooh franchise as a whole, i.e. "The Wonderful Thing about Tiggers" which was also written by the Sherman Brothers. "You're the Only You" is in a sense a more general derivation of Tigger's usual song, in which he asserts that "the wonderful thing about Tiggers is: I'm the only one".

*The lyric is constructed using Tigger's idiosyncratic manner of speech. Specifically, Tigger often ends a statement uttering short, repeated series of "hoo"s or "grrrr" (like a tiger growling).
