German submarine U-438

Unterseeboot 438 or U-438 was a German World War II Type VIIC submarine commissioned on 22 November 1941. U-438 served with 8. Unterseebootflottille (U-Boat Flotilla) for training and later with 9. Unterseebootflottille from 1 August 1942 to 6 May 1943. U-438 completed four patrols sinking four ships totalling GRT|19,502|first=yes or GRT and damaging one ship totalling GRT|5,496.

U-438 was sunk with all hands on 6 May 1943 northwest Newfoundland by depth charges from the sloop HMS "Pelican".
