Wolverine makes stops here three times—once on its way to Chicago and twice on the way to Pontiac. The current station is a platform shelter near the former station house, which is now a local restaurant. It is fairly close to the city's administrative office and the Lake Michigan shoreline. Parking is available east of the station.
Of the 11 Indiana stations served by Amtrak, Michigan City was the eighth-busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 9 passengers daily.[2]
