- Shahrekian
"Shahrekian" (Persian: شهر کیان) is a city in western
Iran , located inChahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari state. It is situated 2km south ofShahrekord , and 524km southwestTehran (the capital of Iran). It was originally known as Shahrak, which means a "little city". Around 1990 its name was changed to Shahrekian. The population is aprox. 18000 (2005 estimate).Language
The language of people in Shahrekian, which is unwritten, is linguistically similar to Azari. Most of the people in Shahrekian can speak in Persian which is the national language of Iran. They call their own language "Torki."
Religion
Almost all Shahrekian's people are Shia Muslims. They do follow Muslim traditions during the rites of marriage, death and sacrifice animals on occasion. Many people of Shahrekian observe daily prayers, and do fast during Ramadan, the month of fasting by Muslims.
Economy
The life style is farming, raising cow and sheep. The extra cheese, milk, curds and dairy products also provide a source of income. Crops such as barley and wheat are raised to provide additional food for the people and the herds. The women are talented weavers and produce distinctive rugs both for their own use and to sell. Some of the men still wear the traditional gray felt hats.
