Victoria Matlock (born 1978) is an American musical theatre actress. She has been involved in several regional theatre productions including
Godspell andThe Sound of Music . She has also performed inCats at the Hangar Theatre inIthaca, NY as Grizzabella and in the original production of Saving Aimee byKathie Lee Gifford . She performed in the national tour ofThe Full Monty and the recent national tour of Evita, supervised by Hal Prince.Victoria Matlock was born on
February 3 ,1978 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was drawn to the stage from a young age. Victoria was a creative person from early on, being involved with such things as singing, acting, dancing, painting, purse making and much more. Victoria's first performance was in The Ugly Duckling as the title character, at the age of four. From there she performed at the Junior Shakespeare Company and in the University of Utah's Theatre for Youth program. At the age of 13 her father took her to see The Phantom of the Opera in New York City. It was then that she realized you could have a career in musical theatre and decided that is what she was meant to do. Victoria attended the University of Northern Colorado where she appeared in: The Man Who Came to Dinner (Lorraine), The Taming of the Shrew (Kate), Always Patsy Cline (Patsy Cline), and Evita (Eva Peron). After obtaining her degree Victoria moved to New York City.Once in New York, Victoria auditioned for many different shows and was cast in TheatreWorks USA's production of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile as Mrs. Primm. After that Victoria went on to star in other shows such as Godspell (Joanne), Baby Case (Studio Sister/ The Secretary), The Sound of Music (Maria), Cats (Grizabella). She was also a part of the national tours of The Full Monty (Susan ((understudy for Pam, Vicki) and Evita (Sister, Nurse).
Victoria was also seen in Jekyll and Hyde in Concert (Emma), and it was in this show that she met her future husband Fletcher Stephens.
After receiving a second chance to audition for the hit musical "Wicked", Victoria was cast as the standby for Elphaba in the national tour in March 2006. She took a brief break in September 2006 to be married, but then quickly returned to the tour. She served for
Julia Murney andShoshana Bean . On January 3, 2007, Victoria took over the lead role of Elphaba fromShoshana Bean and ended her run as the green witch on November 4, 2007 in Boston, MA. She was replaced by Carmen Cusack who was recently the standby for Elphaba in the Chicago company of "Wicked".Victoria recently starred as
Mary Magdalene inJesus Christ Superstar with theMaine State Music Theatre . The run lasted June 4th througth the 21st. As well as concert, The Grass is Always Greener for friend/composer Will Van Dkye.You can now find her at the Westside Theatre in the off-Broadway show The Marvelous Wonderettes, a cotton-candy colored, non-stop pop musical blast from the past!
