supertall skyscrapers to be built inMiami ,Florida in theUnited States . The complex consists of the Empire World Tower I and the Empire World Tower II. If completed, both towers would stand at 1,022 feet (312 m), with 93 stories each. They would be built onBiscayne Boulevard . If completed, the Empire World Towers would surpass Four Seasons Hotel and Tower, Miami's current tallest building. However, the two buildings would not surpass Miami's approvedOne Bayfront Plaza , and would thus likely stand as the 2nd-tallest buildings in the city if constructed. The towers would, however, be among the tallest buildings in the United States.Height
The Empire World Tower were originally proposed to rise 1,200 feet (366 m) and 106 stories. At the time of their proposal, there was speculation that the towers would become the tallest all-residential buildings in the world upon completion. At the original proposed heights, the towers were also poised to become the tallest buildings in the
Southeastern United States .In December 2007, the height of the towers was decreased to 1,022 feet (312 m). While an official statement giving the reason for the downsizing has not yet been released by the Miami Planning Commission, it is probable that the height decrease may have been brought on due to the concerns raised by the
Federal Aviation Administration about the proposed buildings' heights. There was much uncertainty about the towers' approval due to potential interference with aviation traffic going into and coming out ofMiami International Airport . Final approval from the City of Miami for the construction of the two buildings at the new heights is pending.
* OnFebruary 28 ,2008 , the Miami City Commission will consider Maclee Development's proposed Empire World Towers, a pair of rounded residential cloud-busters that would rise 93 stories over Biscayne Boulevard across from Bayside Marketplace at a planned 1,049 feet (320 m). The city's planning board has recommended approval. Already approved by the commission: veteran Miami developer Tibor Hollo'sOne Bayfront Plaza , a 1,008-foot glass office tower resembling a twisting, billowing mainsail set to be complete by 2015. The $1.8 billion project, which also includes a shorter hotel tower, would replace an existing 19-story "high-rise" at 100 S. Biscayne Blvd., across fromBayfront Park .See also
