Panevėžys Air Base

Panevėžys Air Base

is an air base in Lithuania located 6 km east of Panevėžys. It is a transport base, with a very large ring taxiway 2 km in diameter. There are 32 large revetments.

The main operator was 117 VTAP (117th Military Aviation Transport Regiment) flying An-22 and Il-76 aircraft [cite web| title = 37 Vozdushnaya Armiya VGK | publisher = Brinkster.com | url = http://www8.brinkster.com/vad777/sssr-89-91/vvs/add.htm ] . It received USSR's first Il-76M on August 27, 1977. The military unit relocated in 1992 to Orenburg.
