Piotter

Piotter is believed to be a variation on the name Peter, most likely after the famous apostle, Saint Peter, from either German or Western Slavic origins. Family was historically from the Lake Leba (Polish: Łebsko Lake) region of Pomerania. As a settlement of World War II, all Germans from this area were forcibly removed from their homes. Today, known Piotters live in Germany and parts of the U.S..

The Piotter surname may or may not be linked with the similar surname of Peotter. Although pronunciation of this particular surname may prove tricky to the uninitiated, it is a fairly simple surname to pronounce. Given regional dialects and languages, some variations have popped up.

1)Pee-otter (Note long e sound on first syllable)

2)Pee-odor (Note long e sound on first syllable, with d sound for double T )

3)Pie-otter (Note long i sound on first syllable)
