Andreapol is an air base in Tver Oblast, Russia located 3 km east of Andreapol. It was built as an interceptor base. It is home to 28 Gv IAP (28th Guards Interceptor Aviation Regiment), which flew MiG-23P aircraft in the early 1990s [cite web| title = Aviatsiya PVO | publisher = Aviabaza KPOI | url = http://airbase.ru/squad/russia/avpvo/ ] and soon acquired MiG-29 aircraft, which continue in service to this day [cite book| title = Air Power Analysis: Russian Federation | last = Butowski | first = Pyotr | publisher = AIRtime Publishing, Inc | date = 2004 ] . A MiG-29 crashed on May 12, 2005 near the air base.
