William "Dock" Walls III

William "Dock" Walls III is a community activist, politician, former aide to Chicago's first African-American mayor, the late Harold Washington and is currently the director of the Committee For A Better Chicago.

Education

Walls attended Horace Mann Elementary and Chicago Vocational High School. As a student at Chicago Vocational, he was a member of the Public League Championship Football team. After high school, he went on to Tuskegee University where he graduated with honors in 1980. In 1986, he graduated from IIT-Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is not an active member of the Illinois bar.

Political Experience

During the late Harold Washington's successful campaign for the office of Mayor of Chicago, Bill Walls helped to organize the Lawyer's Committee for Harold and served as president of Law Students for Washington. From 1983 to 1986, Bill served as Confidential Assistant to the Mayor.

Bill Walls co-managed Joyce Washington's campaign for Illinois Lieutenant Governor which netted over 360,000 votes, served as National Political Director to Rev. Jesse L. Jackson's Rainbow PUSH, and submitted nearly 40,000 signatures on Nominating Petitions for the office of Chicago City Clerk. He also served as the Illinois primary surrogate for John Kerry in his 2004 bid for U.S. President.

Election 2007

On April 23, 2006, Walls announced his candidacy for Mayor of Chicago. On December 11, 2006 the first day for filing nominating petitions, Walls submitted 39,000 nominating signatures. With incumbent Mayor Richard M. Daley submitting 24,000 signatures, this marked the first time during Daley's tenure that a challenger submitted a greater number of signatures than him. Daley and Dorothy Brown.

Election 2008

Walls is a candidate in the 2008 Democratic Primary for U.S. Representative from the 1st District [http://chicagoelections.com/docs/ballots/39d.pdf] . He is running against incumbent Bobby Rush.

Family

Bill Walls is married to Pamela Walls and they have three children and five grandchildren.
