Roberto Solozábal

Roberto Solozábal Villanueva, Solozábal (born September 15, 1969 in Madrid), is a former footballer from Spain, who played as a central defender.

A product of Atlético Madrid's youth system, Solozábal would play for the first team from 1989-97, switching to Real Betis (1997-2000) before retiring. During 1995-96, he formed a solid centre-back partnership with another Atlético graduate, Juan Manuel López, as the capital side achieved an historic double.

He was part of the Spanish side that won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, and also received 12 senior caps from 1991-93, the first coming on April 17, 1991 in Cáceres, a 2-0 friendly loss to Romania.
