He is the son of J.R. and Betsy Burke. He attended
Conestoga High School where he played basketball for CoachBen Campetti . He was an all-league selection infootball and basketball and an all-area pick in basketball. He was captain of both teams (two years in basketball). He averaged 10 points and five assists. He playedquarterback ,defensive back andwide receiver in football. He had 53 catches and 13touchdowns . He was Conestoga's scholar of the year in 2002. He played in 11 games in 2005-06 in his first season with the varsity team at UNC. He started at
point guard for two years in the Carolina junior varsity program where he was teamates with local legend Bobby Murphy. He scored six points and had four rebounds, two assists and three steals. He hit a three-pointer in the win over UC Santa Barbara. He appeared in five ACC games. He participates in the sports business and real estate clubs at UNC. He was transferred fromFairfield University after the school discontinued its football program.enior season (2006-07)
Burke earned the nickname "Biscuits" during his senior season due to a unique marketing campaign initiated during the 2005-06 season between the Tar Heel basketball program and the
Bojangles' chain of fast food restaurants. Whenever a Tar Heels team scores 100 points or more in a game, anyone can buy two sausage biscuits for $1.00 at participatingBojangles' restaurants statewide. (The biscuits are normally $1.79 each.) Twice during the 2006-07 season (Jan. 3 vs Penn and Jan. 31 vs
Miami), Burke hit the 3-pointer that pushed the Tar Heels over the century mark.
