The X-Files " science-fiction television series created by Chris Carter. It is notable as being one of the few episodes that do not deal with the paranormal.Plot
Someone is excavating graves in
Minneapolis , removing body parts from the corpses. Mulder and Scully are contacted because the agent on the case believes the crimes to be related to incidents ofcattle mutilation . Mulder quickly dismisses the idea that the case is an X-File, profiling the perpetrator as a fetishist. The two agents decide to stay and help, however, as the agent on the case feels unequipped to handle it by himself, and since Mulder believes the perpetrator will soon escalate to murder in order to scavenge warm bodies. His belief is proven to be correct shortly after, and Scully is visibly moved by the crimes, apparently suffering from flash backs to her recent abduction (in "Ascension" and subsequent episodes). She manages to find a finger print belonging to the killer, but as she is driving to meet with Mulder and the other agents, the killer forces her off the road and kidnaps her. He is about to kill her when she manages to escape his grip, and he chases her through the house where he has been keeping her. The police arrive in the nick of time, overpowering and arresting the killer, and rescuing Scully.Production notes
The killer (Donnie Pfaster) was originally planned to be a
necrophiliac . However, the topic was deemed too extreme for network television, and his fetish was changed to that of murdering to attain souvenirs such as hair and fingernails.Trivia
After the opening credits Mulder and Scully are walking through a graveyard and two of the stones are in memorium of
Raymond Soames , andHelen Simms two victims of Billy Miles from the "Pilot" episode. The
Minnesota Vikings player seen on the television in the Minneapolis field office is wide receiverCris Carter , a clear reference to "X-Files" creator Chris Carter. When Pfaster asks the man in the cell opposite what Scully was called, he replies "Scully, like the baseball caller". This is a nod to Chris Carter's explanation of the origin of Scully's name- after Vin Scully, his favourite sportscaster.
Nick Chinlund would reprise his role as Donnie Pfaster in the episode Orison.References and external links
