Producer Studies

Producer Studies

Media Producer Studies research the creators of media, such as Hollywood TV Producers (see Cantor, 1971) and Journalists (see Eliasoph, 1988 or Solely, 1992) among others, to investigate their processes in creating and forming media. Producer studies may employ participant observation as a research method, which grants the researcher access to the producer's processes and interactions. Producer studies are an area of relatively limited study because it is difficult to access producers in order to study them. Nevertheless, producer studies are an area that needs more research.

Examples of Producer Studies:

Cantor, Muriel G. "The Hollywood TV Producer." "The Hollywood TV Producer: His Work & Life", pp. 189-209. New York: Basic Books, 1971.

Solely, Lawrence. "Shaping the News." "The News Shapers: The Sources Who Explain the News", pp. 1-6. New York: Praeger, 1992.
