NCAA Division I-A football team records by decade
- NCAA Division I-A football team records by decade
2000s
1970s
Notes and information
*Teams have reached 100 wins in a decade 8 times. This has happened twice in the 1970s, twice in the 1980s, and four times in the 1990s. One of the reasons for more in later decades, is because the college football season has expanded, to allow more games to be played.
*Oklahoma became the first team to reach 100 victories in a decade.
*Nebraska became the first team to reach 100 victories in back-to-back decades, when they did so in the 1980s and 1990s.
*Florida State set the NCAA record for winning percentage in a decade at .890 in the 1990s, and they are the best team of the 90's.
*Marshall set the Division I record for victories in a decade with 114 in the 1990s. However, through the 1996 season, the Thundering Herd were members of Division I-AA (now Division I FCS), which conducts a 16-team playoff to determine its national champion. Teams in that division can play as many as 15 games in a season (11 regular-season games and four playoff games). During the period from 1990 through 1996, Marshall played in the national title game five times and advanced to the semifinals one other time. (The all-division NCAA record for most victories in a decade is 120, by Division III Mount Union in the 1990s.)
*Michigan holds the NCAA record for most victories all time.
*Notre Dame has the most victories since 1900.
*Oklahoma has the most victories since WW2, see above.
*Nebraska has the most victories since 1970
*Oklahoma has the most victories since 2000
