United States for the work of theUnited Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).Americans for UNFPA is currently engaged in an advocacy effort to change the Bush Administration's policy of blocking U.S. funding of UNFPA. In addition to fighting for the release of the nearly $200 million in government support that has been withheld since 2002, Americans for UNFPA also raises money directly for UNFPA programs worldwide.
UNFPA provides women's health care and promotes the rights of women in more than 140 countries around the world, making it the largest multilateral source of such assistance. UNFPA's support of women's health care includes family planning, maternal health and HIV prevention programs. Additionally, UNFPA programs prevent gender-based violence and promote girls' access to education.
