Rao Gopal Rao

Rao Gopal Rao( _te. రావు గోపాల రావు)(January 14,1937 - August 13, 1994) was a very popular Tollywood actor. He acted in many hit movies as a Villain.

Rao Gopal Rao was born on January 14th 1937 in Ganganaparu near Kakinada. He started his career as a stage artist. He started his own association called Associated Amateur Drama Company and did many plays under the banner. S.V. Ranga Rao who watched his plays, recommended him to "Gutta Ramineedu" who was making "‘Bhakta Potana' "(1966). He was also worked as an assistant director for this film. As an assistant director,he worked for the films like "Bangaru Sankellu" and "Mooga Prema".

He acted as a main villan in the film "Jagat Kiladilu "(1969) which starred Superstar "Krishna". But his voice was dubbed with some dubbing artiste because the film's crew thought that the voice was not suitable for films. With the film "Mutyala Muggu" directed by "Bapu", he got the instant recognization.He acted in films directed by Bapu "Bhakta Kannappa" (1976), "Gorantadiipam" (1978), "Manavuri Pandavulu "(1978), "Kaliyuga Ravanasurudu "(1980), "Tyagayya" (1981)," Jaakii" (1985), "Bullet" (1985) etc.

As a producer he made the films like "Station Master", "Lorry Driver", "Bhargvaramudu", "Vintadongalu " etc.

He was awarded with "Kala Prapoorna" in 1990 by Andhra University and the cultural organizations gave him the title "Natavirat". He was felicitated with the "Nagayya Award" in 1987. He was appointed as Rajya Sabha member by Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, the then chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

He passed away on August 13th, 1994.The film "Prema & Co" was released after his death.

He has a son named Rao Ramesh who is also currenlty acting in telugu films.
