Helen Friedman

Dr. Helen Friedman is a clinical psychologist in private practice in St. Louis, Missouri since 1981. She has 10 years of additional training after her Ph.D. (4 1/2 years training in gestalt therapy and 5 1/2 years in marriage and family systems). Her specialties include sexual trauma and compulsivity, dissociative disorders, posttraumatic stress, gender identity, and relationship issues. She has presented on these topics at national and international scientific conferences and has made numerous appearances on television, radio, and in print (USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Psychology Today, Cosmopolitan, New Woman, Mademoiselle, SELF, Redbook, YM, CosmoGIRL!, Salon, etc.). For 7 1/2 years, she hosted "PsychTalk" on KDHX Radio, for which she received the Community Partnership Award from BJC Behavioral Health Services “for providing thoughtful mental health education.” She also served 4 years on the advisory board of CosmoGIRL!, a national teen magazine. Dr. Friedman is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, St. Louis University School of Medicine; media chair and a former president of the St. Louis Psychological Association; the recipient of the 2005 Merit Award from the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health; and a member of numerous professional organizations. She is featured in the book, The Successful Therapist (Wiley, 2005).
