"Hamlet and Oedipus" is a critical essay of William Shakespeare's character Hamlet, and how he possibly suffers from the Oedipus Complex. Ernest Jones is the author of this essay. The essay has been criticized, however, because it suggests that the Oedipus Complex is the only cause for Hamlet's behavioral changes. Other critics would consider that the fact that Hamlet's father was murdered and his mother was married two months later, also a big role in Hamlet's behavior. The essay was first published in the year 1949 by W. W. Norton & Company, Inc.
