February 3 2005 ) was an American politician and a member of theUnited States Congress fromTennessee . He was born onOctober 31 ,1915 . He attended the public schools ofWartrace, Tennessee , andCumberland University inLebanon, Tennessee . He graduated from Middle Tennessee State College inMurfreesboro, Tennessee in 1939. DuringWorld War II , he served in theUnited States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, theSilver Star , and thePurple Heart with anoak leaf cluster .Sutton was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first and to the two succeeding Congresses. He served from
January 3 ,1949 untilJanuary 3 ,1955 . In 1954, he was an unsuccessful candidate for United States Senator. He worked as an investment securities broker. He died onFebruary 3 ,2005 inBerrien Center, Michigan .References
