Standard (Indian automobile)

The Standard is an Indian brand of automobile which began production in 1957. Initially, versions of the Standard Eight and Ten/Pennant (the last, in India, curiously branded "Standard 10" and devoid of bootlid trimwork, until 1960, and swapped to Triumph Herald with modified bodywork (such as four doors) from 1961 to 1970, it was remodelled to the Gazel from 1971 to 1978--all of these models used versions of the 948-cc engine; from 1985 to 1987 the company manufactured the 2000, a 2-liter version of the Rover SD1.
