November 27 ,1937 , byAG Weser of Bremen. She was commissionedApril 22 ,1939 withKapitänleutnant Gustav-Adolf Mugler in command."U-41" conducted three patrols, two as part of the
6. Unterseebootsflottille and one part of the2. Unterseebootsflottille .1st Patrol
"U-41" left the port of Wilhelmshaven on
August 19 , 1939. During this patrol, two ships were sunk. The Finnish "Vega", 1,073 tons, and "Suomen Poika", 1,099 tons. She arrived back in port onSeptember 17 , 1939.2nd Patrol
"U-41" once again left the port of Wilhelmshaven, again with Mugler in command, on
November 7 , 1939. OnNovember 12 both the 275 ton British "Cresswell" and 11,019 ton Norwegian "Arne Kjøde" were sunk. OnNovember 19 the 1,351 ton British "Darino" was sunk. Finally, onNovember 21 the 296 ton French "Les Barges II" was sunk. The U-boat returned to port onDecember 7 , 1939.3rd Patrol
"U-41" left the port of
Helgoland onJanuary 27 , 1940 with yet again Mugler in command. During this last patrol, one ship was sunk and one damaged, both onFebruary 5 . The 8,096 ton Dutch "Ceronia" was damaged and the 9,874 ton British "Beaverburn" was sunk. "U-41" never returned to port, being sunk on this same day.Fate
On
February 5 ,1940 , "U-41" was sunk bydepth charge s from HMS "Antelope" south ofIreland . All 49 crew members were lost with the ship.ee also
