Calderdale Explorers

Calderdale Explorers

The Calderdale Explorers was a basketball team based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, which competed in the British Basketball League's inaugural 1987-88 season.

The team was established as the Halifax Explorers in 1982, when they entered the National Basketball League Division 2. They changed their name to Calderdale after just one year, and in 1986 they won promotion to Division 1. In 1987, the Expolerers joined 14 other teams in the newly established British Basketball League, however after just one season, the club withdrew from the professional league as they could not afford the court hire charge of just £14 at North Bridge Leisure Centre. The club returned a year later in 1989, returning to NBL Division 2, however they soon folded in 1992, a decade since the teams foundation.
