Candlebox 's eponymous debut album. The song is one of the band's most well known, entering the charts in July 1993 and remaining there until January the following year when it was officially released as a single. "Far Behind" was also included on "The Best of Candlebox " in 2006.The song begins with a bittersweet guitar introduction which carries throughout the verses. Its melody then shifts into heavy guitar during the chorus which carries into the song's end. Lyrically, "Far Behind" reminisces on people's neglect for one another's struggles and their subsequent regret and maturity. The
power ballad charted better than any other Candlebox single and often regarded as a '90salternative rock staple. The song was performed on "
Late Night with David Letterman " amidst the promotion of "Candlebox". [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KjtZFT8TBQ Candlebox - Far Behind - Letterman]YouTube .com. The "Far Behind" video was directed by Nick Egan. Perhaps representing the past friendships of
frontman Kevin Martin, it revolves mainly around an old, battered house and its inhabitants. Early on, Martin sings with a corded microphone while walking through the neglected structure. A cheerful young woman is also seen sitting at the edge of a grimy, near-empty outdoor pool. The chorus then has a man splashing red paint across the white walls. Various people are seen lying around the house including a lone, weary looking man in abathtub who at one point appears to be defending himself from a drowning attempt. Song lyrics are scribbled along parts of the walls, and anAmerican flag serves as a backdrop to certain shots. "Far Behind" aired heavily onMTV and was one of the most requested videos of 1993.Tracklist
