The station opened in 1870 [citebook|title=London Railway Atlas|author=Joe Brown|publisher=Ian Allan Publishing|date=2006] .Access to the station is via the westbound platform, the eastbound platform being reached by the footbridge shown in the picture. The station is approached by an entrance giving access to adjacent Offord Road, alternatively by a footpath leading from Caledonian Road, at the top of which are located the Oyster readers.
