The 1980 Coral UK Championship took place at the Guildhall, Preston from 16 November and TV stages shown on BBC TV took place between 22 and 28 November 1980.
BBC Television coverage had been extended to eight days after the success of other competitions such as the World Championship and the UK Championship was the most successful at the time. Steve Davis took his first major title after making his first major quarter-final the previous year whitewashing Terry Griffiths 9-0 in the semi-final and massively beating Alex Higgins 16-6 in the final to claim it starting the Davis era in snooker.
