C.I. Traders is a company based in the
Channel Islands . It operatesMarks and Spencer franchise in Jersey and owns the Safeway supermarket chain in both bailiwicks, after purchasing Safeway's Channel Island operations from Morrison's. This is in addition to operating the 'Checkers' supermarket brand, CI Hospitality (which operates in excess of 80 pubs across the islands) and wholesale import and distribution under the CIMANDIS banner.The property division (formally COMPROP) is responsible for acquisition and development of commercial and residential property. This is then retained for letting or sold.
L'Abeille operates from a modern factory south-east of Nantes. Its principal activity is the production of carbonated soft drinks, MMD Shipping Services, a Portsmouth based business which specialises in stevedoring, warehousing and distribution services, publishing, brewing, baking and Channel Rentals (company and residential technology hire) figure amongst the groups other activities.
On
27 June 2007 it was announced [Jersey Evening Post , 27 June 2007] that the group was sold to a private equity consortium for £260 million (subject to regulatory approval).References
