Founded by
Harry Blech in 1949 as the UK’s first chamber orchestra, the London Mozart Players (LMP) is an ensemble of musicians from the UK and abroad. It does live performances and makes CD recordings, particularly of the core Classical repertoire.The LMP has performed with many conductors, including Sir
John Barbirolli , SirJohn Eliot Gardiner , SirCharles Mackerras , SirRoger Norrington and SirGeorg Solti . Former Music Directors of the LMP includeAndrew Parrott , an expert in the field of early music,Matthias Bamert ,Jane Glover and Harry Blech himself. Currently titled conductors are SirJames Galway OBE (Principal Guest Conductor) and Nicolae Moldoveanu (Associate Guest Conductor), with the actorSimon Callow CBE as the LMP’s Theatrical Advisor.Concerts take place around the UK as well as at the orchestra's home,
Fairfield Halls inCroydon ,Surrey .In Mozart's anniversary year, 2006, the LMP has performed his music at nearly 130 venues across Britain and in Europe.
In the late 1990s, the London Mozart Players engaged in a series of recordings of symphonies by obscure and moderately known CLassical Era composers, which was released by
Chandos Records and called "Contemporaries of Mozart". It included, among others, works byIgnace Joseph Pleyel ,Muzio Clementi ,Leopold Kozeluch , andJosef Mysliveček .External links
