London Mozart Players

London Mozart Players

Founded by Harry Blech in 1949 as the UK’s first chamber orchestra, the London Mozart Players (LMP) is an ensemble of musicians from the UK and abroad. It does live performances and makes CD recordings, particularly of the core Classical repertoire.

The LMP has performed with many conductors, including Sir John Barbirolli, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Roger Norrington and Sir Georg Solti. Former Music Directors of the LMP include Andrew Parrott, an expert in the field of early music, Matthias Bamert, Jane Glover and Harry Blech himself. Currently titled conductors are Sir James Galway OBE (Principal Guest Conductor) and Nicolae Moldoveanu (Associate Guest Conductor), with the actor Simon Callow CBE as the LMP’s Theatrical Advisor.

Concerts take place around the UK as well as at the orchestra's home, Fairfield Halls in Croydon, Surrey.

In Mozart's anniversary year, 2006, the LMP has performed his music at nearly 130 venues across Britain and in Europe.

In the late 1990s, the London Mozart Players engaged in a series of recordings of symphonies by obscure and moderately known CLassical Era composers, which was released by Chandos Records and called "Contemporaries of Mozart". It included, among others, works by Ignace Joseph Pleyel, Muzio Clementi, Leopold Kozeluch, and Josef Mysliveček.
