History

The program was started in 1988 by Heath Chantler and John Cavlovic as a club side within the University of Windsor Intermural sports programs. The Lancers originally played exhibition matches against OUAA sides, in the Michigan Collegiate League against teams like Michigan State University, Bowling Green State University, University of Michigan, and Western Michigan University. Canadian college and Civic Mens sides. In 1991 the U of W RFC entered the Michigan Collegiate League where they became a perennial force. Throughought the 90s the club successfully started a Women's Side & established themselves as a legitimate sporting organization on Campus . In 2000, the team was rewarded by the University of Windsor with full varsity status , and gained entry into the Ontario University Athletics Conference. Finally obtaining the right to be officially recognised as Lancers .
