John Mason (Schoolmaster)

Jonathan Anthony Mason (born 1945) is an Indian educationist. He has served as the Headmaster of several major public schools, including St. James School and the Doon School. He also served as House Master and later Vice-Principal at La Martiniere College, Kolkata before moving to St. James School as Head Master.

Birth

John Mason was born in Dehradun on January 10, 1945.

Career

Although he is usually known as John Mason, his real name is Jonathan Anthony Mason.Mr Mason's earlier education was at La Martiniere, Calcutta. He did his M.A.in English from Jadavpur University.Mr Mason has taught in and headed several schools during his career. These include La Martiniere College, Kolkata, St. James School, Kolkata as well as the Varkey group of schools in the UAE. In 1996, he took over as the Headmaster of The Doon School, from Shomie Das. He served as Headmaster until May 2003, after which Kanti Bajpai took over. Mr Mason then returned to the Varkey Group and was managing a number of schools of the group in the UAE.

He has now retired from active teaching and currently lives in Dehradun.
