East Calder

East Calder is a small town located in West Lothian, Scotland. It is located about a mile east of Mid Calder and about a mile west of Wilkieston.

History

East Calder has an estate agent, two Scotmid stores, a Post Office/Convenience Store, two pubs, a Bookmakers, a Chip Shop, a Pizzeria, two Chinese Restaurants, a Car Wash, a Doctors' Surgery, a Bowling Green, a Chemist and a Sports Centre. An Industrial Estate called Camps is located on the edge of the town. There is a coin-operated public toilet near the Surgery.

Transport

The A71 bypasses the town to the South. East Calder is served by a number of bus service including First's route 27/28, which connect the town to Livingston and Bathgate in one direction, and Edinburgh in the other, Horsburgh's route 555/777, which connect the town to Sighthill, Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh Airport, and Livingston and Prentice Westwood's route 400, which connects the town to Ratho, and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The nearest train station is located at Kirknewton.

East Calder has two primary schools, East Calder Primary School and St Paul's RC School. St Paul's is the local Catholic primary school. East Calder is in the catchment area for West Calder High School.
