Sighthill, Edinburgh

Sighthill is a suburb in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland.

It is dominated by three high rise residential tower blocks (Glenalmond Court, Weir Court and Hermiston Court) all of which are due to be demolished in the next few years, Broomview house was demolished on 21/9/08, also in the area are the towers of Stevenson College and Napier University's Sighthill Campus (formerly the "Edinburgh Business College"). There is also a medical centre, a library and a fire station, as well as some small shops.

The area had one of the highest percentages in support during the referendum for the Scottish parliament.Fact|date=February 2007

To the west is Bankhead Industrial estate, which contains Burton's biscuit factory, as well as a Royal Mail Mail Centre and two government buildings called Grayfield House and Saughton House.

Sighthill is bounded on the north-west by South Gyle, to the north by Wester Broom, to the east by Broomhouse and to the south by Wester Hailes and the Calders. It is sometimes considered to be part of Wester Hailes, and Broomhouse is sometimes included with Sighthill.

The Calder road, one of the city's main arteries, runs by Sighthill, and the Edinburgh-Glasgow & Stirling railway line is nearby.

The library in Sighthill provides a great deal of support to the local community and was recently awarded the CILIP Libraries Change Lives Award and the Outstanding Public Service Team of the year award as well as an award from the Scottish Executive for their efforts in reducing anti-social behavior in the area.

Broomview House at Broomhouse was demolised on Sunday 21st September 2008 by Edinburgh Council. The flats came down at 11.15am in a controlled explosion where one of the residents who used to stay in the building pressed the button to blow them up. The flats were built in the 1960s. The rest of the other 3 flats remaining are expected to be demolished next year.
