Gunningite is one of the minerals in the
Kieserite group. Its chemical formula is (Zn,Mn2+)SO4·H2O. Its name honours Dr. Henry Cecil Gunning (1901–1991) of theGeological Survey of Canada and a Professor at theUniversity of British Columbia ,Vancouver ,Canada .Occurrence
Gunningite is rare. It is found in dry areas of the
oxidized portions ofsphalerite -bearing deposits. It has been noted in mines inCanada (Yukon Territory ,British Columbia andNew Brunswick ), theUS (Nevada andArizona ),Switzerland (Valais ),Greece ,Attica andGermany (Baden-Württemberg ).Details
