- Peter Yang (writer)
A Hmong writer, artist and community activist frequently featured in the Hmong literary journal
Paj Ntaub Voice and the anthologyBamboo Among the Oaks .According to his original entry in the contributors' section of Bamboo Among the Oaks (2002, p. 201):
Peter Yang does not consider himself to be a "traditional" writer. He often forgoes conventional structures and methods in favor of "feel." He believes the appeal of literary work is not in its scholarly worth but in its value to everyday personal health and growth. A smile, a twinge of pain, an emotion from a reader is the goal and the reward. Presently, he is continuing his work in literature while applying this belief in other fields such as media arts and public speaking. Someday he hopes to become an accomplished writer, filmmaker, and speaker, all the while brandishing a smile. Peter resides in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Yang has given presentations at the
CONvergence science fiction convention in Minneapolis and has acted in various Hmong productions including "Stir-Fried Pop Culture" by Hmong American writer May Lee atMu Performing Arts in April, 2005. Yang has also been involved in the past with the V.I.S.I.O.N. awards in the Hmong community.
