Charles I, Duke I of Savoy

Charles I, Duke I of Savoy

Charles I (March 29 1468 – March 13 1490), surnamed the Warrior, was the Duke of Savoy from 1482 to 1490 and titular king of Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Armenia from 1485 to 1490.

When he was 17, his father's first cousin, the childless Queen Charlotte of Cyprus, his uncle's widow, whom her illegitimate half-brother had exiled from her inherited kingdom in the 1460s, surrendered her rights to young Charles, her next legitimate heir in line from King Janus of Cyprus. The kingdom itself was held by the republic of Venice, but the Savoy dynasty continued to claim it.
