Susumansky District

Susumansky District ( _ru. Сусума́нский райо́н) is a district ("raion") in Magadan Oblast, Russia, established on December 3, 1953. The administrative center of the district is the town of Susuman.

Despite being rich in natural resources, the economy of the region has suffered in recent years. The severe climate and poorly developed infrastructure are partly to blame but the difficult transition from Soviet times has led to the collapse of a number of companies with the result that many inhabitants have left the region. As of 2006, the head of Susumansky District was Alexander Nikolayevich Talanov.

Industries

The main industries of the Susumansky District are gold and coal mining.
