Victor Lysakov

Victor Nikolaevich Lysakov (b.1952) is a Russian expressionist artist who works primarily in oil or acrylic on canvas.

Biography

Born in Siberia on September 27, 1952, Russian artist Victor Nikolaevich Lysakov said he discovered his artistic talent at age six. In 1975, Lysakov earned his MS in Physical Chemistry from Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys. For the next 10 years, he worked at various military machine building plants. At one time, he was accountable for over 700 employees under his command. In 1984, he attained his Ph. D. in Technical Sciences from Lomonosov State Institute of Fine Chemical Technology in Moscow.

Lysakov began experimenting first with watercolor, but now mostly paints with oil on canvas. Though never classically trained, Lysakov studied Rembrandt’s and Bryullov’s techniques.

In 1987, he became a founding partner of an independent artists’ union, “Arbatr¹.”

Lysakov has participated at exhibitions³ in Russia, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Austria and France. Some art critics⁴ have praised Lysakov for his modern expressionism and in 1991, Lysakov was named one of the “Best European Artists⁵.”

Art Style

Lysakov classifies himself as a modern expressionistic painter and says he prefers a vibrant color palette. His works are typically categorized in one of eight "Motifs," based on thematic elements, colors or figures. The eight motifs include: Biblical, Carnival, Contemplation, Close Ones, Melodies, Traditional, Viridian Night, and Women.
