- La Perla Theater
The La Perla Theater ( _es. Teatro La Perla) is a well-known
theater in the city of Ponce,Puerto Rico . The name "La Perla" is derived from "La Perla del Sur" ("The Pearl of the South"), a common nickname for the city.The theater was designed by Juan Bertoli Calderoni (an Italian resident of the city) in the
1860 's and it bears a neoclassical structure with a six-columned entrance. The building was badly damaged in the 1918 earthquake. However, it was rebuilt in1940 using the original plans and reopened in1941 with better acoustics technology.The theatre has a
seating capacity of 1,047 and it's the constant venue forconcerts and plays.The lobby of the theater has a small
museum dedicated to the history of the building and past shows.ee also
